It's Time For An Honest Conversation about Cannabis!

Fun Cannabis facts, and some that are not so fun, but you should know them anyway.....

  • The European Journal of Pharmacology published an article back in 2004 that claimed the messenger RNA of CB1 (the abbreviation for a group of specialized proteins known as cannabinoid receptors) can be found in the human embryo just fourteen weeks after gestation.
  • The role of endocannabinoids as inhibitory retrograde transmitters is now widely known and intensively studied. However, endocannabinoids also influence neuronal activity by exerting neuroprotective effects and regulating glial responses.
  • Earlier studies proved that two endocannabinoids, anandamide and 2-arachidonoyl glycerol, are both present in the early stages of a human embryo. Anandamide has been proven to start out in low concentrations in the embryonic stage, gradually increasing throughout time until the eventual levels that we reach in maturity are attained. It is exactly the opposite for 2-arachidonoyl glycerol, which starts at its highest concentration levels in the embryo and gradually decreases over time.
  • Samuel Caldwell, of Denver Colorado was the first victim of the drug war.  He was arrested on October 5th, 1937, indicted by a grand jury on October 6th, and sentenced to a $1,000 fine and 4 years in Leavenworth prison for selling a few joints to his friend, Moses Baca, who received 18 months in Leavenworth prison. Harry Anslinger the new head of the Bureau of Narcotics and son in law to the head of Mellon Bank who was heavily invested in newly invented nylon (therefore had a great reason to see hemp banned) attended the trial in Denver, Colorado.
  • Cannabis has always been a part of Ayurvedic, Chinese and Korean medicines.
  • In 1916 the U.S. Government predicted that all paper would come from hemp by the 1940's and that no more trees would need to be cut down.
  • Government studies report that 1 acre of hemp equals 4.1 acres of trees.
  •  Raphael Mechoulem, the man who originally discovered THC in 1964 and has been studying cannabis ever since, whose team discovered the endocannabinoid system in 1987, states, "There is barely a biological or physiological system in our bodies in which the endocannabinoids do not participate."
  • Cannabis is not a medicine in the same sense as pharmaceutical medicine. It does not treat the symptoms, it treats the cause. The cause of various ailments, disease, disorders, boils down to one thing, the ECS (Endocannabinoid System) is not working properly due to a deficiency of cannabinoids. Science has proven exogenous (external) cannabinoids, which cannabis produces, act identically to endogenous cannabinoids, those our bodies make naturally. No amount of pharmaceuticals can boost the ECS. Only cannabis can do that by means of the cannabinoids.
  • Thomas Jefferson and George Washington both owned Hemp farms.
  • If you ever wonder why some older folks seem so brainwashed about marijuana, this helps explain it. The following is an excerpt from a Children's school textbook from the Reefer Madness era titled: "Joe's Story - Marihuana: What it is, and What it Does"

"Here are case studies of acts of marihuana addicts, in each instance a young boy:

“1.   Held up and killed a bus driver.
        "2.   Killed his best friend.
"3.   Robbed and killed a hotel clerk.
        "4.   Shot a man in a holdup.
"5.   Killed his father, mother, sister, and two brothers with an ax.

"When asked about their crimes after the drug effect has died out, they say: 'I do not know what happened.   Everything is a blank.'

"As the mad stage passes, the Marihuana smoker becomes very sick.   He vomits, and then falls into a heavy, helpless stupor.   His sleep is restless, and he dreams wild dreams.

"It is only a few steps from a marihuana smoke to the insane asylum.

"Marihuana is an outlaw.   It is against the law to grow it, sell it, or have it in one's possession.

"Dr. Merrill has the following to say as to what to do about it: 'Every state has peddlers who try to lure children with cigarettes in which there is marihuana. . . . The louts who sell it should be sent to prison; but the best way to "spike" the use of the dope is to tell the truth to growing children.
  • In 2012, 63 people died in the course of US domestic drug law enforcement operations, or one about every six days. Eight of the dead were law enforcement officers; 55 were civilians.
  • A 2012 UCSD study showed A teen who consumes alcohol is likely to have reduced brain tissue health, but a teen who uses marijuana is not.
  • In a 2012 study, mothers fed raw (non-psychoactive) cannabis, were 8 times more likely to breastfeed for over 1 year, which has been shown to be the healthiest option for newborns.
  • The federal government will pay a county $8,000 - $12,000 for each child taken away from cannabis using patients, to use at the county's discretion.  Poor counties are taking away children and tying the parents up in court for 15 mos. while they collect money from the federal government.
  • In Butte County, California the rate at which the county is taking children away from cannabis using parents is 70% higher than the national average.
  • Cannabis provides the ideal ratio of omega 6 to omega 3 Essential Fatty Acids.
  • Cannabinoids are a group of terpenophenolic compounds present in Cannabis (''Cannabis sativa'') and occur naturally in the nervous and immune systems of animals.
  • Excavation of a tomb in China revealed the 2700-year-old grave of a Caucasian shaman whose accoutrements included a large 2lb. cache of cannabis, superbly preserved by climatic and burial conditions.  It is thought that the cannabis was ingested by eating, as no pipes or smoking objects were found.  The male portions of the plant were removed, suggesting the plant was similar to cannabis used for medical or social purposes today
  • Various cultures are known to have used hemp as far back as 7,000 years to make all sorts of goods.
  • There are 483 different identifiable chemical constituents known to exist in cannabis. The most distinctive and specific class of compounds are the cannabinoids (66 known), that are only known to exist in the cannabis plant.  Other constituents of the cannabis plant are: nitrogenous compounds (27 known), amino acids (18), proteins (3), glycoproteins (6), enzymes (2), sugars and related compounds (34), hydrocarbons (50), simple alcohols (7), aldehydes (13), ketones (13), simple acids (21), fatty acids (22), simple esters (12), lactones (1), steroids (11), terpenes (120), non-cannabinoid phenols (25), flavonoids (21), vitamins (1) [Vitamin A], pigments (2), and elements (9).
  • The FIRST Gutenberg Bible was printed on hemp paper by Johannes Gutenberg circa 1455, so was the FIRST King James Bible begun in 1604 and completed in 1611.

  • Cannabinoids can be used to treat such a wide range of conditions, as they modulate the intensity of neurotransmission in many bodily systems.
